Description
Artist’s Biography/Statement:
As a painter, I aim to initiate the viewer in conversation with the abject—those things from which we derive shame, pleasure, discomfort, and confusion. My watercolor and gouache paintings of the human figure in vulnerable states express the courage and truth in intimacy. Intimacy, particularly sexual intimacy, is often either demonized or eschewed in U.S. culture. These watercolors from my series of aged nudes express reverence for women through all stages of life and remember the women who lived through a pre-Roe era. Generations of women have had their bodies used as political and religious battlegrounds for control against our wills. I believe it is crucial to find solidarity throughout generations of women now post-Roe.
