Artist’s Biography/Statement:
Long ago, possibly during times of celebration or times of immense distress, women (and sure, possibly men) created goddess-like fertility figurines known in today’s archeological circles as “Venus figurines”. These Venuses symbolize the power of nature, the power of creation, the power of Life and Death, the Divine/Sacred Feminine. With origins as early as the Paleolithic Era, the continuity of this archetype reflects an adaptable nature and is a powerful force which has endured the brutal test of time.
This repeat pattern design is my modern-day representation of all the Venuses (especially my beloved “of Willendorf”). I designed it to be wallpaper, and it is my response to the crisis of Roe v Wade. If it were up to me, I’d line the walls of Congress with Uteruses as a reminder that We Are Here, and we are all around you…so choose wisely what you do with our rights.
