Artist’s Biography/Statement:

A little girl never says, “When I grow up, I want to have an abortion!” An abortion is a woman’s natural right, because a woman’s body is her own. Nobody wants to have an abortion, but it is sometimes the best choice, even if it is a very hard choice to make. No one has the right to take this choice away, because no one will ever be as intimate with the process of pregnancy and the ramifications of parenthood as a mother who grows the fetus to fruition. If parenthood is not a viable option for a woman, then she has the responsibility to terminate the pregnancy. This piece depicts the process of an abortion. The beads represent eggs in the ovaries. The unicorn bead represents the fetus. The use of lace and ribbon speaks to femininity. Embroidered on the uterus are the words, “the hardest choice, but still my choice”.
