I’m a North Carolina native who has lived in Colorado, Tennessee, and now Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I graduated from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC with degrees in Elementary Education and Psychology but art has always been my true love. In a picture of my nursery school class, all the other children are seated at long tables but I am standing in the back by the easel, brush in hand. I have taken art classes and workshops for decades but consider myself mostly self-taught. We are enthusiastic supporters of our local arts community.
Artist Statement: One night as I was preparing to complete an exercise in contrasts for an online art course, I instead found myself spellbound as my brushes began moving almost on their own, furiously painting the images in my mind of the devastating wildfires in the West. In retrospect, it seems like both a literal and metaphorical depiction of the state of our country. I am appalled and ashamed at what we have become under Trump, with new horrors being revealed each day. I am deeply worried we have crossed a threshold into Fascism from which there is no return. We must organize and act to douse this raging conflagration before it is too late.
